Pronovias Show 2010 - Posted: 6/19/2009

Just got back from another fantastic trip to Barcelona. The Pronovias and Manuel Mota collections for 2010 are looking fantastic. Just wanted to let you all know about the trip.

Barcelona roof-top hotel pool

We arrived on June 9th a little jet lagged and disoriented by the time change but managed to stroll around Barcelona and enjoy some tapas. The following day was a day at leisure in beautiful Barcelona. For those that have not been there, I highly recommend it. The city is fascinating and fun. There is the stunning architecture of Gaudi, fantastic old world markets and great shopping! It is an extremely cosmopolitan city with a great mix of old world and new.

On Thursday the Pronovias activities begin with informal lunch and dinner. It is a great chance to meet up with other bridal store owners from around Canada and the world. We get a chance to share our experiences and have a few laughs. As usual we had a great time with the Canadian contingency.

Barcelona Bridal Week
Friday is a very busy day. We visited for the first time the Barcelona Bridal Week Market http://www.moda-barcelona.com/en/index.asp. It is a Spanish bridal market, with many vendors, that attracts buyers from everywhere but mostly Europe. The fashions were great and fascinating to see. Over the course of the day we ordered a fantastic new suit collection for mothers designed and made in Madrid. These dresses are not in any stores in Canada and we think you'll love them. Look for them in the new year.

Pronovias Gala Party
In the evening we had the Pronovias Gala Dinner. Of course it was spectacular. There are about 1500 people attending from around the globe. A gourmet sit down dinner was combined with Cirque de Soliel performers doing aerial ballet and acrobatics!

Pronovias Runway Show
Saturday is all about the dresses. The day starts with a 10:00 am fashion show. This is a world class fashion show with top international models, staging and effects. They previewed the new collections. Immediately after the show we proceed to another floor which has all the gowns on display. We march between all the aisles to have a good look. With so many people doing the same things sometimes there is pandemonium! It is no easy job, as we compare, budget and select what we think our customers will love in the upcoming season. By 3:00 we are done and heading to the pool for one last dose of the magnificent Mediterranean sun! A relaxed hotel dinner with all our Canadian friends and we are done. Early wake-up on Sunday to get to the airport and all day on planes. It was fun and I think you will be excited when the new dresses come in.

Picking the Collection!

Next up is Los Angeles in a few weeks for the Enzoani show. I will let you know all about it!

Pronovias 2009 - Posted: 6/27/2008

Wow, another year has gone by and so has another fantastic Pronovias show. We travelled once again to Barcelona Spain to choose bridal gowns from the world’s largest bridal company. As usual they showed fantastic hospitality to the nearly two thousand visitors from around the globe. Highlights of the event included a fantastic party at the Catalonia National Art Museum, which has a spectacular panoramic view of the city. Prior to the party there was an incredible exhibit of fifty top designer bridal gowns. The one-of-a-kind showpiece gowns were promoted in collaboration with Swarovski Crystal. They are all truly unique and quite breathtaking. Afterwards a gourmet meal was served and we were entertained by professional dancers and a live orchestra.

Saturday morning we enjoyed a fantastic fashion show at The Palacio de Congresos. The glamorous show featured top international models in the new collections of bridal gowns. Following all the stores from around the world selected from hundreds of dresses. 2009 brides, you are in for a treat. The gowns are beautiful. Still popular are pleated bodices and draped skirts. This year you will see a lot of V-neckline dresses, which I know our brides have been asking for. The sensational new Pronovias gowns should start rolling in this September. We would like to thank all our friends from Pronovias for all their hospitality.

Market Update - Posted: 4/8/2008

Hi everyone! We just got back from a fantastic weekend in Chicago! I thought I would provide you with a bit of insight on our buying trips. Chicago hosts the National Bridal Market twice a year and it is the biggest bridal market in North America. Retail store owners from the United States and Canada gather to select from upcoming fashions from hundreds of vendors. The market features designers selling wedding gowns, bridesmaids, eveningwear, prom, jewelry and accessories. It takes considerable time to take it all in. Many of the vendors put on fashion shows in their booths. When you attend a market like this you realize that there is a tremendous amount of merchandise to choose from for your store. We take great pride in selecting carefully for our future customers. There is no standing still in this business and new exciting fashions roll in all year long. Buying trips are exciting and challenging and we love them. Coming up this spring and summer includes trips to Barcelona, Spain for the world famous Pronovias show and to Los Angeles, California to check out the fantastic collection and meet the designer, Enzoani. Check back on my blog for photos and details!

Here I am with my husband Arthur and Steve from Malis Henderson.
Having fun with Marty from Paloma Blanca.

Pronovias 2008 Bridal Show - Posted: 6/21/2007

One of the highlights of being in the bridal business is traveling to see the latest fashions.

On May 30th we were off to Barcelona, Spain to select from the brand new 2008 Pronovias collection.  Wow what a trip!  This is not a normal buying trip for our store.  The Pronovias experience is truly different and I intend to tell you all about it.

The Barcelona Beach
Great Shoe Shopping!
Before I get to the Pronovias event, let me tell you about the magnificent city of Barcelona.  Barcelona is located on the Mediterranean in the North of Spain. It is a spectacular city that combines the old and new world. The city is a wonder to wander filled with spectacular sculpture, architecture, markets and shopping.  I would highly recommend a visit for anyone looking for a fantastic vacation or perhaps a honeymoon! If you are interested in finding out more about Barcelona check out http://www.barcelonaturisme.com

Now on to the Pronovias event.  This is a once a year event that takes place over several days.  On the day of our arrival we were treated to a welcoming dinner at our hotel.  Our hotel was one of several that Pronovias books for all its 1900 guests arriving from around the world.  We sat with other store owners from New Jersey, Puerto Rico and Kansas City.  On an interesting aside, the Kansas City store owner we sat with is the mother of Survivor Guatemala $1,000,000 winner Danni Boatwright!  One of the great things about attending a show like this is that you get to meet really interesting store owners from all over the world.

Enjoying tapas on La Rambla
A glimpse from the fashion show

On our second day, Friday, we had the day free to wander the markets of La Ramba and of course sample some tapas.  Friday night was the big Pronovias event.  The evening started by being shuttled by busses to Palau Sant Jordi.  This is a basketball stadium that has been transformed into a fashion show stage.  There are curtains as high as you can see and you had no idea that you were in a stadium.  All of the attendees are dressed to the nines!  It feels like going to the Oscars.  At 8:30 the fashion show begins and it is spectacular. Top models from around the world show off the latest bridal fashions.  There is media from all over the world snapping photos and filming. The show is non stop and upbeat.  The theme of the show is appropriately “Marry Me.”

Upon the conclusion of the fashion show a curtain wall opens to reveal a magnificent ballroom.  The rest of the night is fine dining and dancing to an unbelievable band.  The party rolls on until the late hours.

Partying with Pronovias owner Mr. Palatchi

Saturday is all work.  We are shuttled back to Palau Sant Jordi to select Pronovias gowns that will be carried in our store in the upcoming season.  This is more difficult than it seems.  We must select from nearly 200 styles that are displayed around the hall.  Careful consideration is given to styles and fabrics.  With all our years in this business it is still a challenge to pick the best styles for our customers.  I think you are going to love them!  Many of the 2008 styles feature ruching and asymmetrical designs. Quite a few are in silk but we loved the unique lace gowns.  These fantastic new styles will be in the store in September or October this year!    There was however still one more party!  Saturday night featured a roof top buffet on top of one off Barcelona’s most exclusive hotels.  We sat with a table of store owners from the United Kingdom and had a blast.  Sunday was our day to explore and relax before we flew home on Monday morning.  The trip is a whirlwind of activity and is so much fun.  The gowns are gorgeous and Pronovias hospitality is top notch.  It’s events like this that make being in the bridal business so great!

Welcome to my blog - Posted: 5/10/2007

In the upcoming weeks I hope to provide our readers with an inside look at what is happening in the bridal industry, exciting things happening in our store and provide some valuable tips for those doing their wedding planning.

Before there are any invitations, dresses, flowers or limousines there is a proposal. I thought that this would be a cute way to get things started. Enjoy.
